THE GEOLOGICAL MAP “Drawing the Earth’s skin”

The video was made as a complement to the exhibition "Hispaniae Geologica Chartographia" that was exhibited at the Alcázar de Segovia from October 6, 2015 to March 28, 2016 where it was projected on a monitor. It was fully financed by IGME and its intended for dissemination.
The geological map is the basic scientific research tool that analyzes the current arrangement of the different types of rocks and sediments on the Earth's surface, allowing us to know what the Earth is today, remember its 4.5 billion-year history, and predict the future.
Geological mapping is an indispensable tool for land planning, geological hazards control, the search and management of mineral resources, including water, and planning of agricultural tasks.
The video illustrates the process of elaboration of the geological map: study of the precedents, data collection in the field, office work, digitalization and edition, including some of the support techniques: the determination of the age of the rocks or the three-dimensional representation of the Earth's structure under our feet.
