Following Royal Decree 202/2021 of March 30, the Geological and Mining Institute of Spain is abolished as a public body
of research, with the character of an autonomous body, attached to the Ministry of Science and Innovation and is integrated as a national centre agency at the State Agency of the Higher Council for Scientific Research (CSIC).

The CN IGME’s mission is to provide the State Administration or the Autonomous Communities that request it, and the
society in general, knowledge and accurate information concerning Earth sciences and technologies for any
action on the territory. It is a national centre for research and technical services of reference in Earth Sciences.
