The analytical and minerallurgical LABORATORIES of IGME have advanced equipment for carrying out a wide range of chemical tests and analyses, such as chemical analysis of water, petrographic, geotechnical and mineral processing, carrying out the official characterization of natural mineral waters.
The Geochemistry laboratory has:
Non-instrumental techniques: gravimetry and volumetry
Instrumental techniques: pH, electrical conductivity, elemental analyzer (C,N,S), UV-VIS molecular absorption spectrophotometry, atomic absorption/emission spectroscopy (AAS), inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES) inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS), XRF and XRD spectroscopy, and thermoionization mass spectrometry (TIMS). Its main activity focuses on the analysis of samples related to Earth Sciences (water, drainage mine acids, leached soils, sediments, mineral concentrates, residues, etc.) and the obtaining and interpretation of analytical results. The determinations are applied to geochemical characterization studies (majority and trace elements), contamination studies, mineralogical characterization, and dating of geological materials.
The request for analysis/tests must be sent to the email laboratorios@igme.es indicating the number of samples, the tests required for each of them and any other information that may be relevant for carrying out the requested determinations.
In the case of solid samples, it is necessary to indicate whether they will be sent already ground to analysis size.
Within an estimated period of 24-48 hours, the budget will be sent to the applicant, indicating the term for carrying out the analysis/tests and the amount of sample required.
Sample shipping address:
Once the budget is accepted, the samples must be sent to the following address (it is not necessary to attach the documentation again)
Instituto Geológico y Minero de España, CSIC
Laboratorios Generales
C/ La calera nº1, Tres Cantos
28760 Madrid
(Indicate reference of the accepted budget)
Results:
After completing the analyses/tests, the results will be sent via email to the applicant. The applicant must indicate in the initial request if the excess sample is required to be returned. In this case, the applicant must reply to the results email indicating the date on which the samples will be collected. As in the delivery, the samples will remain at the reception with the codes assigned to their reception and the applicant will be able to withdraw at any time within the opening hours of the center.
For any questions or additional information, please send an email to laboratorios@igme.es
