Bachelor's degree in Geology (UCM-1988), Master's degree in Geological Engineering (1988), and PhD in Geological Sciences (1995). Over 25 years of professional experience gained in R&D projects (UCM-Madrid, ICTJA-Barcelona, IGME-Madrid) on the structural, magmatic, and metamorphic evolution of the Alpine, Variscan, Caribbean, and Andean orogenic belts, mainly developed in Spain, the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Costa Rica, and Nicaragua.
Senior Geologist hired by IGME and companies such as Geoprin, MAYASA, Enresa, and Inypsa, in MAGNA and other geological infrastructure projects (1989-1996). Pre-doctoral stay at the University of Newfoundland (Canada 1993) and several short post-doctoral stays at ICTJA-CSIC in Barcelona and the International University of Miami. Associate Professor and Contracted Doctor Professor in the Petrology and Geochemistry Department at UCM (1996-2006). Since 2006, he has been active at IGME as a researcher, Principal Investigator (IP), and supervisor in the generation, design, execution, and dissemination of results from R&D, infrastructure, and cooperation projects in the Caribbean area, focusing on geo-thematic mapping, structural geology, igneous and metamorphic petrology, mineral resources, neotectonics, and geological hazards. Activities funded by the Spanish Government's R&D Plan (3 projects as IP), the European Union's SYSMIN Program in ACP countries (IP in SYSMIN-II), the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation, the ICGP, and IGME (4 projects as IP). Since 2011, he has participated in the development of the National Geological Plan of the Government of Angola (PLANAGEO) by the UTE IGME-LNEG-Impulso, as IGME responsible for the geological survey at E. 1:250k.
Visiting professor in the "Salvador de Madariaga" program at the Institute of Earth Sciences, University of Lausanne, Switzerland (2013-2018).
Current and future research lines are multidisciplinary and focus on intra-oceanic subduction and arc-continent collision processes, with emphasis on the generation and preservation of mineral resources and geological hazards in areas of active tectonics.
Author of over 50 articles in SCI journals and about 75 articles in Spanish scientific and technical journals and book chapters. Participation with contributions in over 75 international congresses and 30 national congresses. He has published about 50 book chapters, monographs, geological maps (MAGNA), technical reports, and memoirs on the geology of the Variscan, Caribbean, and more recently, the Eburnean of Southern Africa orogens. He has also organized numerous scientific-technical conferences, seminars, workshops, field trips, etc. Advisor and expert collaborator for the European Commission in Earth Sciences, reviewer of R&D projects for the governments of several Latin American countries, the European Commission, the Swiss NSF, and the Spanish ANEP.
