Research and studies on the origin and nature of hydromineral resources, their geodiversity and their correct protection for the preservation of this mining resource.
The Mineral and Thermal Waters Research Group was formed in the late 90s, currently consisting of four members. The main objective of the group is to advance the knowledge of mineral and thermal waters. The main results of this research include various publications at both national and regional and local levels, obtaining statistics on the economic sector that exploits this hydromineral resource and their publication on the CN IGME-CSIC WEB page. The group's functions include the preparation of mandatory reports in relation to the declaration and authorization of the use of mineral and thermal waters.
1. Geological, hydrogeological and hydrochemical studies.
2. Hydromineral resource vulnerability studies.
3. Preparation of the mandatory reports for the declaration of water as mineral.
4. Preparation of the mandatory reports for the establishment of the protection perimeter.
5. Management and updating of the Mineral Waters Database.
6. Annual compilation of statistics on the industries associated with the resource.
7. Socio-economic analysis of the industries in the sector.
1. Research on the mechanisms that give rise to hydromineral resources.
2. Definition and characterization of hydromineral domains in Spain.
3. Identifying unique mineral waters by their composition.
4. Identifying unique mineral waters due to their content of elements that indicate deep circulation.
5. Study of the geodiversity of these resources.
6. Feasibility studies of future exploitations that take advantage of this hydromineral resource.
7. Study of the geological and mining heritage associated with these resources.
The four members of the group have higher degrees (doctorate, mining engineering and bachelor's degree geological sciences and environmental sciences). Its main competencies are: hydrogeology, hydrochemistry, project management and database management.
