Research activities:
Since the mid-eighties to 2005 my research was focused on fossil insects found in the Jurassic and Cretaceous lithographic limestone deposits. In 2005 starting several projects for the study of the Cretaceous amber from Spain (one of the oldest in the world with palaeobiological content), parallel to the development of other international research groups in Cretaceous amber in Lebanon, France, USA, Germany and Miocene amber in Mexico and Dominican Republic, with which I collaborates intensively. Insects are the most diverse group today, and are also very diverse and disparate in the fossil record. This has promoted a partnership with specialists worldwide spread of which was necessary for the work of certain groups. Most works on phylogeny are based wherever possible, in cladistic methodology. In the field of palaeoecology I developed insect-insect, plant-insect or insect-vertebrate (mainly Mesozoic) interactions. These works were mainly carried out by comparing the functional and constructional morphology of fossil insects with today. Throughout the research career have worked various insect orders (Odonata, Isoptera, Hymenoptera, Coleoptera, Diptera, Neuroptera, etc.), especially with families with important phylogenetic and paleoecological interest. Lately we've been able to work with a new technique in Paleontology, the X-ray phase contrast microtomography synchrotron light, which is yielding dramatic results in the study of the remains of organisms within the amber. Allows three-dimensional study of external, internal structures, and soft tissue preserved. The study of fossil insects found in deposits of exceptional preservation, led me to specialize in taphonomy processes of the reservoir-type Konservat Lagestatten leading to the fossilization of soft bodies in the geological record, and also on measures to protect these particular sites. I was for several years a member of the Heritage Committee of the Spanish Society of Paleontology, and also a member of the Advisory Commission of the Department of Culture of the Generalitat of Catalonia, on issues of Paleontological Heritage.

Since 1998 I belong to the Group of Excellence "Sedimentary Geology", and since 2004 I coordinate the Spanish Team AMBARES (acronym of Spanish ambers, in Spanish). I have been part of the organizing committee of national and international conferences. Since 2006 to 2010 I was Vice-President of the International Palaeoentomological Society (IPS), and since 2010 member of the Scientific Committee. I am also member of the scientific committee and evaluator of more than 30 magazines over both Paleontology and Geology, and Entomology.

In the Faculty of Earth Sciences of the UB, I am Secretary of the faculty since 2006 and Coordinator of the Master on Paleontology since 2010. Along with these activities also impart teaching in the degree of Geology, Master on Paleontology (inter Universitat de Barcelona - Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona) and Master of Cultural Heritage Management and Museology at the UB.

Publications

Since 1985 when I published my first paper on fossils termites of El Montsec, I have published papers on fossil arthropods, mainly insects (Odonata, Blattodea, Mantodea, Dermaptera, Chresmodids, Hemiptera, Thysanoptera, Hymenoptera, Diptera, Coleoptera, Neuroptera, Raphidioptera, etc.), but also spiders, crustaceans and myriads. I published also on insect taphonomy, amber geochemistry, amber in archaeological sites, fossil vertebrates, ichnology, paleontological heritage, etc. (see in Research Gate https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Xavier_Delclos/publications).
