Alicante desalination plant – Clot de Galvany Agua Amarga - Cerro de
Santa Pola - Tabarca Island.
Visite Technique
Hydrogeological interest:
|
- |
Understand the operation of a desalination of sea
water for urban supply, with special emphasis on characterization
and infrastructure problems of water catchment and disposal of brine.
|
|
- |
Evaluate the performance of coastal wetlands in
the area of the plant, the effect of this upon them and the
management alternatives. |
|
- |
Understand the effect of an ancient salt mining
in the coastal aquifer formation target of the desalination plant.
|
|
- |
Understand broadly, the Vega Baja-Campo de Elche
aquifer and hit paleogeographic evolution. |
 |
First we will visit the desalination plant of
Alicante, property of Comunidad de Canales del Taibilla, intended to
give supply of water to the populations of Alicante, Elche, Santa
Pola, San Vicente del Raspeig, Sant Joan d'Alacant and El Campello .
This is a plant with a special water collection system, that consist
not only in a battery of wells on the coast, but also in a gallery
excavated in line with the cost, there it starts horizontal drains
that collect water a few meters below the seafloor.
|
 |
Next we will make several stops in the vicinity of
Cerro de Santa Pola, to have different panoramics to help us explain
the coastal wetlands in the zone, such as the Clot de Galvany
Saladar Water and Bitter (formerly saltworks) and its interaction
with the desalination plant. In the last stop we will discuss the
general functioning of the aquifer of the Vega Baja-Campo de Elche,
with the Hondo of Elche example of associated wetland and the actual
existence of a salt mining (Salinas de Santa Pola). |
 |
Finally we will go to the small island of Tabarca
to taste a traditional caldero. Along the way marine (20 minutes) we
will have a panoramic of Santa Pola hill, a spectacular Messinian
reef builing, perfectly preserved. To finish will go to the small
island of Tabarca to taste a traditional Caldero (cauldron in
english, is similar to paella, with rice, fish and sea food). Along
the way marine (20 minutes) will have a panoramic hill of Santa
Pola, a spectacular building perfectly preserved Messinian reef. We
will also turn around the island while outlining key geological
features. |
