As the most significant novelty, IGME has opened in 2001 a new job line oriented to the valuation of the historical mining heritage of Spain, in response to the increasing interest awaken in a variety of fields. The intention is to develop action programs about deposits, mining installations, and about the documentary files that belong to national and foreign mining enterprises that maintained exploitations in the different districts and mining basins. The main aim is to provide to the community of people interested on the subject an infrastructural knowledge that will allow scientific investigation about economic, social and technology history, as well as the promotion of other activities with cultural, tourist and recreational aspects.
